SRC provides Pachyderm accounts for members of the Compaq research community in Palo Alto. We do have a demo account at SRC that Compaq employees can use to see what the SRC applet looks like; send us email if you want to use it. We also provide Pachyderm accounts in Palo Alto for a very small number of people elsewhere in the company who have close links to Corporate Research. We don't provide Pachyderm accounts for the general public.

If you are registered in the /etc/passwd file at SRC, you can create your own Pachyderm account, without administrative help. Just start Pachyderm and login (as described in "Logging In"). If you decide to adopt Pachyderm for reading your mail, tell it to enable POP-3 retrieval. This is a one-way street: if you enable POP-3 retrieval, then Pachyderm will automatically retrieve all your email (whenever the applet is running) and stash it away in the Pachyderm message store.

To enable POP-3 retrieval, click "Preferences" on the applet's "File" menu, select the appropriate option from the form in your browser window, and click "Set Preferences" there. Caution: once you've started using Pachyderm to retrieve your email, you must stop using other email programs - or Pachyderm won't see all your email.

See also how to add your old email archives to your Pachyderm account.
