IT JUST WORKS

The advent of the world-wide web, the convergence of network protocols on the Internet standards, the wide availability of end-user computers connected to the Internet (or to private intranets) and equipped with web browsers and Java, and the extremely large computing and storage capacity available for shared servers, have combined to produce a unique opportunity.

It's now feasible re-engineer all of the software services provided by networked computer systems so that they have the following features:

  • The Platform is the Web: the services are all available through any web-connected computer.

  • Location Independence: the user of the services can be totally mobile, moving among client computers at will.

  • Bandwidth Tolerance: the services will work adequately over a wide range of connectivity bandwidths.

  • Easy Data Retrieval: it's easy to retrieve information from large repositories without complex classification schemes.

  • You Can Trust It: the services can protect the privacy and integrity of all data and transactions.

  • It Just Works: customers can arrange for whatever level of reliability, availability, and fault tolerance they want.
